Digitalization is moving – it awakens curiosity and presents many people in Switzerland with challenges.

The current Digital Barometer, in which we were able to participate in the qualitative analysis of the results, makes it clear: The digital world offers many opportunities – and raises just as many questions.

What People in Switzerland are Particularly Concerned About

Access & Understanding
Many feel left behind – whether due to a lack of basic digital skills or a lack of access. Older people, people with lower incomes or lower education levels are particularly affected.

Security & Trust
Cyber risks, data misuse and the lack of transparency of algorithms create uncertainty. Many are calling for more protection, clear rules and education – especially when it comes to the use of artificial intelligence.

Social Interaction
The digital world connects – and can also be a burden. Hate speech, polarization and constant accessibility are having an increasingly negative impact on psychological well-being.

Balance between online & offline
The desire for a more conscious approach is strong: Many are looking for strategies to set healthy boundaries – such as through digital breaks, nature experiences or targeted offline times.

What the Future Needs Now

  • Digital education for all – age-appropriate and suitable for everyday use
  • Trustworthy framework conditions for AI and platforms
  • Promotion of media literacy & digital resilience
  • Space for analog experiences & digital mindfulness
  • Opportunity for participation

Digitalization must serve people – not the other way around.
